The Role
The Designer role is an exciting opportunity to join the Extrablack creative studio, reporting to the Creative Director and Studio Manager (or as directed). This position is ideal for a highly creative and collaborative designer with solid experience across brand, digital and print, and an interest in how brands translate into environmental and spatial experiences.
You’ll be involved in conceptualising and executing thoughtful, well-crafted design solutions across a range of mediums, including brand identity, digital, social, web, advertising, EDMs, property marketing and environmental graphics. The role suits someone with a proactive, adaptable mindset who enjoys working across both tightly defined briefs and more open, conceptual projects that require strategic thinking and creativity.
Working within a supportive, close-knit team, you’ll contribute to shaping strong brand narratives and high-quality design outcomes, while continuing to develop your creative, technical and production skills in a fast-paced studio environment.
What you’ll be doing
– Design Execution – Conceptualise and deliver strong, brand-led design solutions aligned to project strategy and creative briefs across identity, digital, print and environmental applications.
– Project Collaboration – Participate in project meetings and creative reviews, collaborate closely with team members, and assist in preparing client presentations and design documentation.
– Creative Contribution – Contribute ideas to brand narratives, campaign directions, copy lines, visual territories and mood boards.
– Brand & Environmental Expression – Assist in translating brand systems into environmental and spatial applications such as large-scale graphics, placemaking elements and experiential brand moments.
– Studio & Process Support – Assist with studio processes including asset organisation, image sourcing, timesheeting and general studio administration as required.
– Continuous Learning – Actively seek opportunities to expand your knowledge across brand systems, digital design, motion, emerging tools and AI-assisted workflows.
– Quality & Detail – Uphold brand standards, ensure consistency across all outputs and apply meticulous attention to detail in every deliverable.

– You’re agile and adaptable, responding confidently to changing project requirements.
– You communicate openly with the Creative Director and Studio Manager when challenges arise, we’re a team and we support each other, we’ve got each others backs.
– 3-5 years experience in an agency setting, with experience working across multiple projects from concept to design development and execution.
– You hold a tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in Graphic Design or Communication Design.
– You have excellent skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, Figma and After Effects.
– You have an interest in developing skills in Animation, 3D tools and AI-based creative tools.
– You demonstrate a strong design aesthetic with excellent typographic sensibility and attention to layout, colour and composition.
– You’re highly organised, with strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
– You complete daily timesheets and manage your time productively.
– You bring a collaborative, positive approach to teamwork, feedback and studio culture.
– You communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
– You have a solid understanding of production processes for print and digital.
– Applicants must be eligible to work full time in Australia and be a Sydney resident – this role is based in our Surry Hills studio.
