Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre
Drawing on harbour pool themes, inspired the colour palettes
Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre, GPARC, is at the heart of the emerging town centre. While informed by Sydney’s famous beach and harbour pools, it was reimagined as continuous wetland nodding back to the original Botany swamp.
Inspired by the pleasures of swimming in Sydney’s beach and harbour pools Andrew Burges Architects and Grimshaw have brought this to one of the largest renewal projects in Australia, Green Square town centre.
Extrablack was tasked with the challenge of designing a signage suite that met the City of Sydney guidelines on arrival and once entered, took you on a journey bringing to life the playful beach and harbour pool experience.
Signage and graphics are painted directly on the walls – reminiscent of the tactile lo-fi way pools and surf clubs painted signage on their buildings. The result ensures a seamless experience providing moments of discovery as well as helping users to find their way.
