The challenge
Osteria Balla was conceived as more than a restaurant. Led by chef Stefano Manfredi and designed in collaboration with Luigi Rosselli Architects, the vision was to create a dining experience that felt expressive, theatrical and distinctly Italian.
The challenge was to develop a brand that could sit confidently within this richly layered interior while bringing clarity and cohesion across every touchpoint. It needed to reflect the energy of Italian culture, connect to the architectural language, and carry through from signage to menus and collateral without feeling overworked or decorative.

The solution
We approached Balla as a complete brand world, where identity and environment were designed together rather than as separate layers.
The brand draws on the idea of “il teatro della cucina Italiana” a celebration of food as performance. This thinking informed a bold, graphic identity that feels both contemporary and inherently Italian. A strong typographic expression, combined with a distinctive geometric language, created a visual system that could flex across print, signage and spatial applications.
Working closely with the architecture, the brand was embedded into the physical environment. Signage, wayfinding and environmental graphics were carefully integrated to complement the interior rather than compete with it, enhancing the overall experience of the space.
This extended through to all restaurant collateral, from menus to packaging, ensuring every detail contributed to a consistent and considered brand experience.



The outcome
The result is a brand that feels inseparable from the restaurant itself. Confident, expressive and highly resolved, it brings a clear identity to a complex and layered environment.
Balla became known not just for its food, but for its distinctive presence. The integration of brand and architecture created a cohesive experience that resonates from the moment you arrive through to the smallest details at the table.
It stands as an example of how strategy and design can work together to elevate hospitality, creating a place that feels both authentic and memorable.
