Foodbank NSW &ACT

Extrablack has spent four years helping Foodbank NSW & ACT pack and distribute food to communities in need. Here's a look at that partnership, and why it matters more than ever.

Extrablack proudly supports Foodbank NSW & ACT

For four years now, the Extrablack team has been rolling up their sleeves for Foodbank NSW & ACT, picking and packing pallets of food and essentials that make their way to communities across the state and territory. It’s hands-on, practical work, and it’s exactly the kind of contribution we love being part of. Foodbank make it easy to get stuck in and start making a difference from day one, and we’re proud to keep showing up, year after year.

The real story, though, belongs to Foodbank and the people they support.

Foodbank NSW & ACT is the largest food relief organisation in the state and territory, acting as the backbone for thousands of smaller charities and community groups who distribute food directly to people who need it. Their reach is enormous: last year alone they sourced 51 million kilograms of food and groceries, equating to 92 million meals, supporting nearly 3,000 charities and over 3,600 school feeding programs.

Foodbank's report clearly outlines the scale of the issue.

Foodbank’s 2025 Hunger Report found that 33% of Australian households, an estimated 3.5 million, experienced food insecurity in the past year. The cost of living remains the biggest driver, cited by 79% of affected households, and the pressure isn’t spread evenly. Renters, low-income households, and single-parent families are all doing it particularly tough, with severe food insecurity now affecting 46% of single-parent households.

There’s a quieter issue too: awareness of food relief is growing, with over half of food insecure households now knowing where to turn, but only one in four have actually accessed support. Embarrassment remains one of the biggest barriers keeping people from asking for help.

That’s why organisations like Foodbank matter so much, and why we’ll keep turning up to pack pallets for as long as they’ll have us.
