At Extrablack, we work across senior living with leading providers and developers creating new homes for our ageing population. And it’s clear: what seniors want from this stage of life is changing fast, and the sector is struggling to keep up.
Supply and trade constraints are already biting in residential construction, and senior living is competing for the exact same trades and materials.
But the bigger shift is cultural. Institutionally branded villages served past generations well. Today’s seniors want pride of place, real community and somewhere that simply feels lovely to live. After decades of delayed gratification, is this generation arriving at retirement feeling they deserve to live well? At Extrablack we think so.
Women are central to this too. As the main demographic in retirement and aged care, their preferences are reshaping everything from layout to amenity to that all important sense of belonging.
This isn’t about updating the old model. It’s about rethinking what senior living should feel like, and we’re excited to be part of that shift.
